The invitation of the StarTech program of support to the digital transformation of small and medium enterprises, worth USD 1 million, is open between March 18 and May 18. Within the StarTech program, the National Alliance for Local Economic Development (NALED) and the Government of Serbia, with the support of the company Philip Morris, are organizing the second annual contest for entrepreneurs, micro, small and medium enterprises and informal teams which have innovative business ideas or want to transform their businesses by implementing new technologies.
Grants of USD 1 million and up to 1,000 hours of expert support will be awarded within the contest, and the value of individual grants ranges between USD 15,000 and 100,000, depending on the user and the type of support.
At the announcement of the opening of the second StarTech invitation, the prime minister of Serbia, Ana Brnabic, pointed out that the sector of information-communications technologies was growing fast and that, at the end of 2021, its exports had amounted to EUR 1.857 billion, of which the surplus had been EUR 1.3 billion, making it the biggest exporting sector.
The director of the Department for Entrepreneurship and Initiatives at the NALED, Dusan Vasiljevic, pointed out that the project was more flexible than other support programs, because it was open to informal teams as well, and that it was more flexible regarding the purpose for which the funds could be used, because it involved human resources and marketing.
He explained that teams which were being founded or startups could apply for support in the development of innovative ideas in the amount of RSD 15,000 to 25,000, whereas micro, small and medium enterprises founded before 2019 could apply for support of USD 25,000 to 100,000, depending on whether they were planning new employments or operations in the national market or the exporting market.
– The teams which apply by April 18 will get concrete support from our experts in preparing their business plans. Those who don’t get funds from the project will end up with a business plan in the process too, which has a great potential value – Vasiljevic said.
So far, 29 projects for innovations and digital transformation in agriculture, healthcare, environment, mechanical engineering and others have been supported through the StarTech program, and Vasiljevic said that he expected around 100 startups teams and small and medium enterprises to be supported by the next year.
