The laying down of the piles for the construction of the EXPO 2027 complex has officially begun at the construction site in Surcin, the minister of finance of Serbia, Sinisa Mali, announced on his Instagram profile. As Mali emphasized in his post, for the purposes of the realization of the international specialized exhibition EXPO 2027, the construction of seven halls is beginning – the Universal Hall of a multifunctional character and six exhibition halls.

– The halls have a span of 45 m + 45 m, except for the Universal Hall, whose span is 90 meters. The length of the halls is 130 to 140 meters. In the first phase, the works encompass the construction of the foundations of the halls, that is, the laying down of the piles, sleeves and foundation beams. Piles with a diameter of 800 mm, a total of 1,647 of them, are planned for the project. The piles are 10 to 18 meters long, and the project plans around 27,500 meters of piles to be laid down for the purposes of the construction of the halls – Mali said.

As he specified, the works on the Universal Hall have begun, and the plan is to soon start executing parallel works on the neighboring Hall 3. Within the first phase around 28,000 m3 of concrete and 3,200 tons of reinforcements are planned to be used for all the halls.

– We have no time to lose and we are aware of the job and the responsibility put on us, because everything has to be finished by the end of 2026. During EXPO, Serbia will be the host to over a hundred countries and over 2.6 million visitors – Mali emphasized.

Let us remind that the Government of Serbia has adopted the Decree which will regulate the future public procurement procedures related to the realization of the international specialized exhibition EXPO Belgrade 2027. The Decree envisages that the limits for carrying out the public procurement procedure for which a public call for bids is announced for all interested companies are RSD 12 million for goods and services and RSD 24 million for works. For procurement procedures of a lower value, bids are collected in the way that the procuring party chooses the business entities which are, “according to the findings of the procuring entity and based on the results of the market research, capable of carrying out the procurement” and sends an invitation for the submission of bids to those business entities.
