The general manager of Red Star Belgrade, Zvezdan Terzic, has recently announced that the issue of the Rajko Mitic Stadium will soon be solved. He said that it had been confirmed to him that the state might secure up to EUR 100 million for this purpose and that he doesn’t expect the stadium’s capacity to exceed 50,000 seats.

– This stadium was not made to meet the needs and requirements of the FIFA and the UEFA and it has numerous flaws. I’d like to have a new one made – Terzic told the press.

He added that both Red Star and Partizan would get the same amount for the reconstruction or the construction of a new stadium.

Terzic added that his club was also considering whether to build the stadium using state funds or with the help of certain foreign investors and added that the decision would be made over the next two months.

He also said that the modern market required a whole new connect and that the location of the stadium was too expensive for the current facility to be on it alone. He believes that other, non-sports features are needed.

– We should be competitive with clubs such as Young Boys or Copenhagen, which earns EUR 20 million a year from rent. Forty percent of Young Boys’ income comes from skyboxes. There are powerful companies in Serbia that might rent them. If Red Star wants to maintain its current level and be competitive, it needs to seek alternative sources of income. We can’t live from transfers alone. Once we have alternative sources of income, we will be able to say that we don’t want to sell Nemanja Radonjic or Marko Marin, for example – Terzic said.

He cited Ferencvarosi as another example of a stadium that is occupied 250 days a year, whereas, the Red Star stadium was occupied for 28 days only last season.
