Local startup OTA Sync facilitates operations for hotel managers and owners of private accommodation worldwide
Nearly 2,800 users from 21 markets use the solution created by the Belgrade-founded Serbian startup OTA Sync, meant for hotel managers and owners of private accommodation. This pertains to automatic management of accommodation capacities, reservation processes, the checking in of guests and activities of the staff.
In addition to the Balkans, the solution is also used in countries such as: Austria, Greece, Spain, USA, United Arab Emirates, Maldives etc.
– OTA Sync is a global solution, software translated in 18 languages which is quickly set up and harmonized with every type of facility, from small apartments to hotel chains – Djordje Jevtic, who, together with his fellow citizen from Tivat, Ilija Milovic, got the idea to launch this project in 2018, says for eKapija.
In order for the owners and managers of hotels and other accommodation facilities to be able to know whether this software is for them, they need to ask two questions. Do they want the system to be simple for use, accessible from any address and from a limited number of devices? Do they want to have a unified management solution in which they control the sale, reception, housekeeping, guest experience, while having a certified solution which enables them to automate their operations?
– If the answer to these two questions is affirmative, then OTA Sync, as the first local cloud-based solution, is the right choice for the user. We are currently the only system which offers a unified control within a single app in our market, without the installation and maintenance costs. Switching to OTA Sync is quick and simple, and no data can be lost in the process – says Jevtic.
Need for tech upgrades more pronounced following pandemic
The software is also available within the mtsBiz segment. As our interviewee says, the cooperation was established in 2022 to the pleasure of both sides.
– Telekom Srbija has recognized the potential that our solution offers and we have agreed to enable mts business users to also get a subscription for the OTA Sync system within their business package. The response of the hotels has so far been extremely good, and I believe that it will be even better in the future – says Jevtic.

– According to a McKinsey survey, hotel management is one of the most poorly digitized industries in the world. First, there’s a great, irrational fear which hampers the introduction of new technologies and the fear that the change will do damage to the business operations. Of course, in practice, this has proven to be an unjustified fear, because new technologies like our software offer a simple transfer, a high degree of automation and data protection. Abroad, we mostly work with hotel managers who got to us through research and concluded that we were the right solution for them, whereas here, the market is still being educated in order to create awareness of the need for technological upgrades. In general, I don’t believe that our hotel managers are any more or less open compared to other markets, because the need for technological upgrades became more pronounced only after the pandemic, when the hotel business was affected by a lack of workforce – says Jevtic.

In the past two years, OTA Sync has attracted considerable investments – EUR 250,000 in 2022 and, only a year later, EUR 1.3 million. As eKapija’s interviewee says, “with the growth of the business operations abroad, there is a need for bigger investments endeavors, primarily to the end of educating the market through marketing activities and for the organization of sales campaigns.”
– The growth so far indicates a high potential in the emerging markets, which have been more closed in terms of tourism so far, such as the markets of Latin America and the MENA region. However, in addition to that, we have significant plans which pertain to the growth in the region and within the USA market and a further gathering of strategic investments – concludes Jevtic.
