The Government of Serbia has adopted the Action Plan for the development of the IT sector in Serbia, which envisions investments in the prequalification of experts and infrastructure and the improvement of the business environment, stated Minister of Public Administration and Local Self-Government Ana Brnabic. She said at the press conference that the plan had been prepared with IT sectors and that its implementation was already beginning.

She added that the ministerial IT council had EUR 10 million at its disposal, the majority of which would be invested in infrastructure.

According to her, the plan is to invest an additional EUR 1.5 million in the prequalification of new IT experts. – We want to prequalify 1,000 people and to offer at least a temporary solution to IT companies regarding new workforce they need, and this will also be a way of reducing unemployment in Serbia – Brnabic said.

She explained that the prequalification of a test group of 100 people would begin the next year, as it was important for the budget to be spent the right way.

She added that the Action Plan envisioned the introduction of a school subject about information technologies in 2017, as well an increase in enrollment quotas in technical faculties in Serbia. – In order for the quotas to increase, we need to find new premises for the faculties – Ana Brnabic said.

She also stated that the focus would be placed on improving the business environment for IT companies, the startup community, SMEs and innovative companies.

Let us remind that the Strategy for Development of Information Technology Industry for the 2017-2020 period, which is followed by the adopted Action Plan, was adopted in mid-November.
