Former Federal Ministry of Interior building to be demolished soon – 55 construction sites currently active in Belgrade
City Manager Goran Vesic says that in the next week or two the demolition of the building of the former Federal Ministry of Interior in Belgrade will begin, where a commercial and office center, as well as a residential complex, should be built.
Vesic said that there were 55 active construction sites in Belgrade at the moment and six sites where the work had been completed.
– Works are being performed in Obilicev Venac St, in Dalmatinska St, a new Airport City building is being raised, there are works in Visnjicka Banja, not to mention the Belgrade Waterfront, where the construction of buildings is well on its way – Vesic said.
– Until 2014, aside from several state investments like the Stepa Stepanovic neighborhood, there were practically no construction sites in Belgrade. If you wish to see how a city or a country is developed, it's enough to count the cranes. In the past two and a half years, we have made truly great efforts to get the investment wheel spinning – Vesic said.
He said that “all those cranes” meant jobs for citizens and that there was no construction company in Belgrade at the moment which was idle and added that new job positions would open in all the newly built facilities, Beoinfo reports.
– At the tenders at the Belgrade Land Development Public Agency, companies from outside of Belgrade tend to win, which is very important, as Belgrade needs to help the rest of Serbia grow – Vesic said and added that it was important to employ the side construction industries as well.
Vesic said that the extension of pedestrian zones was being carried out at the moment, as well as the change in traffic priorities in Belgrade, and that one of the new things in Belgrade would be public bicycles.
– Citizens of Belgrade will be able to use public bicycles soon. We are really trying to have as many bicycle lanes as possible. We made the decision on raising public bicycle stations at one of the previous sessions of the city Assembly – Vesic said.
