In fifteen days, Zrenjanin-based Vodovod i kanalizacija will release a tender for potable water treatment so that it could be used for drinking and citizens will have healthy water by the end of 2015, the Deputy Mayor, Sasa Santovac said on Monday, August 4, 2014.

The ban on usage of the water from water supply system in Zrenjanin has been effective for 10 years due to increased arsenic quantity.

At the press conference, the Deputy Mayor said that the public procurement will relate to procurement of the potable water treatment and that it will be open for 60 days.

- After signing the contract, the deadline is eight months for the entire work completion – Santovac said.

The General Manager of Vodovod i kanalizacija, Goran Tajdic, said that when the procurement finishes, the contract will be signed and water supply system will provide healthy potable water, citizens will pay current price of RSD 27 per cubic meter but increased for the treatment price.

- Public procurement implies maximal price of RSD 28 euro cents and we hope that companies which can treat current water for smaller amount will appear. If we sum it up, a potable water cubic meter would be below 50 euro cents – he said.

As Tadic added, the objective of the public procurement is that the price of water in Zrenjanin is not higher than in Belgrade, Novi Sad or other places which have healthy potable water.

He said that the contract with German Wasseretechnik, which should make water plant in Zrenjnin was ot signed and that there can be no proceedings and the water quality which would be provided would be questionable.

When asked to explain the difference between currently announced public procurement and the contract with Wasseretechnik which was terminated with the Assembly’s decision, the assistant Mayor, Ivan Devic, said that in the previous procurement the City was an investor who was providing technology and equipment based on public tender.

- In that case the City would , after the facility construction, became its owner and in the current procurement it does not refer to procurement of material goods, i.e. plant but services – he said.

Devic was precise that the company which would provide the service for processing water from Zrenjnin water supply system and deliver to the city in line with satisfactory technical criteria is required.
