Milena Radomirovic, a representative of the Serbian government’s European Integration Office, stated today that Serbia had received an accreditation for independent use of funds from the EU, that is, for a decentralised system for the management of these funds, it was announced on the website of the Serbian government. Speaking at a roundtable on the state’s capacity for the use of EU funds held at the Belgrade Chamber of Commerce, Radomirovic said that Serbia had obtained the right to introduce such a system after it had become a candidate country for EU membership.

That means that Serbian institutions will have jurisdiction for the planning and justifying of spending of funds.

She underlined that the crucial problem for the successful use of funds was to retain experts in that field.

Head of the Negotiating team for Serbia’s accession to the EU Tanja Miscevic agreed with this assessment, noting that at this moment Serbia does not have enough professionals who can make a good project for funding from EU pre-accession or other funds, in the English language and with a clear budget plan and objectives.

We need people of that profile because that is a craft difficult to learn, but which is one of the most important crafts in the European integration, Miscevic pointed out.
