The overhaul of B1 unit within the thermal power station Kostolac B commenced March 1st. As planned, this unit was disconnected from the grid at midnight on February 28 so preparations for its revitalization could start. According to the plan, the B1 unit will remain shut down by 30 November 2014, the TE-KO Kostolac company announced on its website.
Based on an operating agreement with the production director of the Electric Power Company of Serbia (EPS), the B1 unit was shut down to carry out the procedure from the emptying of the bunker to the handover of the unit to contractors.

According to the daily Novosti, once the overhaul is finished, this unit will have a capacity of 350 megawatts, the same as the renovated unit B2 which now supplies the power supply system of Serbia with 8.5 million kilowatt-hours of electricity a day. The overhaul of the B1 unit, which will cost USD 112 million, is being carried out as part of the first phase of Serbia's credit arrangement with the Republic of China. The first phase of this arrangement also includes the set-up of desulfurization system and the construction of a dock on the Danube and an industrial track.
