Local company Ave Pharmaceutical opened a pharmaceutical plant in Vrsac on September 16th.

After it gets licenses, this plant, which now employs 95 people, will be producing medicines for high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diseases of the central nervous system, and gastrointestinal diseases, it was said at the opening ceremony.

The Vojvodina government helped the construction of this plant with RSD 40 million through its New Technologies program.

Vojvodina Prime Minister Bojan Pajtic said in the plant that its work would contribute to the prevention of drug shortage, adding that he expected the medicines from that plant to be available at below-market prices.

- This company shows that people in Serbia have enough knowledge and intelligence to build a highly-sophisticated plant that has an ambition to start exporting its products as early as next year and, thus, improve the country's balance of trade - said Pajtic.

Provincial Secretary for Science and Technological Development Dragoslav Petrovic said that that facility was the 107th high-technology plant co-funded by the provincial government in the territory of Vojvodina to begin production.

So far, 2.2 billion dinars have been set aside from the provincial budget and more than RSD 8 billion from the private sector for 107 plants that have hired over 25,000 people.
