Filming of British show “Robin Hood” to start in Gornji Milanovac area

In the village of Varnice in the municipality of Gornji Milanovac, in early April 2025, the filming of the “Robin Hood” TV show will start. This is a high-budget series, which will be broadcast on Lions Gate and MGM Plus, reports Morava Info.

– As the public already knows, in the past years, in Gornji Milanovac, the “Heroes of Halyard” movie was filmed and we proved ourselves to be good hosts to the entire film industry. Now we have the opportunity to host the international project called “Robin Hood”. The first season will consist of ten episodes. It is my great pleasure to have met the entire team, led by Jonathan, who is the producer of the show, and I am very glad that they have chosen Gornji Milanovac and the village of Varnice as the location in which to film this big project. We are here to help them with the filming, because we expect big benefits for the municipality of Gornji Milanovac – stated Dejan Kovacevic, the president of the municipality of Gornji Milanovac.

He noted that the production of this film had graciously offered to renovate the village home in Varnice on their own, from their own budget.

– We will have a full set, where the show will be directly filmed in several locations in Varnice, which will also have an impact on the promotion of our city. At the filming, there will be 200 to 250 actors who will participate in the shooting for four months, from April until July next year. We hope that the project will take root and have several seasons, which will contribute to the development of tourism in our municipality, and Gornji Milanovac will be placed on the world map of famous towns where big and important projects were filmed – said Kovacevic.

A large number of international, but also Serbian, actors will take part in the shooting of the series. Some of the scenes will be filmed in the studios in Simanovci and on Fruska Gora, but the majority of the show will be filmed in the Varnice area.

The producer of “Robin Hood”, the founder and director of Balkanic Media, Jonathan English, reveals why he has chosen locations in Serbia for the filming of this show.

– For six or seven years now, Balkanic Media has been shooting various American films and series in the territory of Serbia and Serbia is truly a beautiful place with plenty of possibilities for the shooting of series and films of various genres. We have picked locations in Serbia precisely because they resemble landscapes in England, where the legend of Robin Hood originates. That is a great opportunity for us to reconstruct the actual events in suitable natural landscapes – he said.
