The minister of construction, transport and infrastructure of Serbia, Goran Vesic, stated today that the Law on Infrastructure Maintenance, which was being prepared, would define the responsibilities, meaning that each piece of infrastructure would have to have a manager.

– There are plenty of bridges, overpasses, underpasses, various pieces of infrastructure that absolutely nobody maintains. Then, after 10-15 years, a lot of money needs to be invested in fixing them, which wouldn’t be the case if they had been maintained on time, that is, if each year there had been incremental investments in their maintenance – Vesic said for TV Prva.

As he specified, the Law on Infrastructure Maintenance will enable each piece of infrastructure to have a manager, whether it’s the republic, the local self-government, the province, or a public enterprise.

– There will be a register of infrastructure and the obligation of the managers to set aside parts of those budgets for the maintenance of that infrastructure. That is good for people’s safety, and also, less money will be spent on the reconstruction of those structures – pointed out Vesic.
