The laying down of the final track marked the completion of the works on the construction of the open railroad on the section outside the capital city, so that the works on the fast railroad in Hungary could be finished by the end of the next year, the minister of foreign trade and foreign affairs of Hungary, Peter Szijjarto, stated in Kiskoros.

– That is the most important milestone in the construction of the Budapest-Belgrade railroad – added Szijjarto.

Szijjarto pointed out that, at some stations, the works were still in progress and that the installation of the signalization was being prepared.

– The works on the construction of the overhead power network have already started, which means that the construction of the Budapest section is in progress. That implies that, by the end of next year, the entire rail section between Budapest and Belgrade will be completed, which will mark the beginning of the new era of rail traffic between those two cities – emphasized Szijjarto.

He estimated that the railroad would benefit Hungary, because, on one hand, it would make “the neighboring country of Serbia closer than ever before,” and on the other, it would become the most competitive route for cargo transport toward ports in south Europe, from where goods from the far-east countries would be transported on toward western Europe.
