The Finnish company which is in the business of electric vehicle chargers Kempower has joined forces with the Croatian company Koncar, and the plan is to accelerate the installation of chargers for electric vehicles throughout central and southeast Europe, including Serbia.

The two companies have signed the agreement on the sales and servicing partnership, according to which Koncar will procure, distribute and install Kempower’s equipment for fast charging for purchasers such as operators of charging stations, public transport operators, port governances and municipalities.

However, it is believed that the cooperation will also serve as a strategic partnership for the improvement of the infrastructure of chargers for electric vehicles in central and southeast Europe. The partnership aims to improve the charging infrastructure in Croatia, Slovenia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and in Kosovo, that is, as announced, in the region “which has been slower to adopt EVs than much of the rest of Europe.”

While Slovenia and Croatia have networks of over 1,500 and 900 public charging stations, the other countries in the region have 300 combined. For the sake of comparison, the leader in the EU, the Netherlands, has 75,000 charging stations.

The data are similar when it comes to the share of electric vehicles in the region, which amounts to 1-4% and is also behind the EUR average from 2022 of 13.9%. Kempower announces that a boost in available infrastructure has huge potential to make a positive impact on these statistics.

Kempower has announced that one of the initial projects taking place as part of the partnership will be a charging station with a total power of 1,200 kW in the Kvarner region of Croatia.
