The Minister of Environmental Protection of Serbia, Irena Vujovic, said today at the session of the Serbian Parliament that the Government of Serbia will not undertake anything regarding the implementation of the "Jadar" project, concerning the exploitation of lithium near Loznica, until the investor, the company Rio Tinto, submits the Environmental Impact Study.

- If the study shows that there is a negative impact on the environment, we will not approve the project - Vujovic said.

She added that citizens can gather, but that she assures them that the imperative of the Government of Serbia is to preserve the environment.

Vujovic stated that the Government of Serbia will be "uncompromising" towards the Rio Tinto company, but she nevertheless emphasized that "she is convinced that a balance can be found between development and environmental protection".

She said that the Government will respect the Berne Convention and that the ore exploitation will not be approved for the location at Homolje.

Currently on the agenda of the extraordinary session of the National Assembly of Serbia are the "Declaration on the protection of national and political rights and the common future of the Serbian people", proposals for several laws on Serbia's debt and the increase in the price of RTS TV subscriptions.
