One generator of RHPP “Bajina Basta” operational again – 300 MW from only reversible hydro power plant in Serbia back on grid

One generator of the RHPP “Bajina Basta” is back in operation, following a major overhaul of the input-output system, the revitalization of the spherical gates of both generators and the repair of the slanted pipeline of the power plant, announced Elektroprivreda Srbije.

– That means another 300 megawatts on the grid, which will contribute to the energy security of Serbia in the time of probably an unprecedentedly long heat wave that has affected our country – the general manager of EPS, Dusan Zivkovic, said in Bajina Basta.

– The bringing back of one generator on the grid here in Bajina Basta, aside from additional production, will also contribute to the optimization of the production capacities, so that we would secure additional quantities of electrical energy at the most favorable conditions – said Zivkovic. He added that the works on the revitalization of the generator R1 were being done simultaneously.

The head of EPS reminded that the revitalization of Serbia’s only reversible hydro power plant had begun after 42 years of operations and that it could not have been delayed any longer.

– The works on the first generator will be completed at the end of November, and next year we are looking at the revitalization of the second generator – announced Zivkovic.

The press release says that the overhaul in the thermal sector is being carried out in line with the planned dynamics, and as soon as next week, the block A6 at TENT will be on the grid. At the beginning of August, the overhaul of the block A1 in Kostolac will be completed, and before the beginning of the heating season, the overhauls of TENT A2 and the block B1 in Kostolac will be completed as well.

During that time, the missing quantities of energy, due to the record-breaking summer consumptions, are secured in the market, much cheaper that the realized prices on the exchanges.
