A public discussion about the amendments to the Law on Energy, which should enable the harmonization of the regulations with the new energy package of the EU and facilitate the operations of energy companies, is expected to take place soon, said the minister of mining and energy of Serbia, Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic. Amendments to the Law on Mining and Geological Explorations are expected to be prepared soon as well, so as to better protect the interests of the state in using mineral resources, announced the competent ministry.

The minister talked about the cooperation on improving the regulations in the sector of energy and mining with a delegation of the Foreign Investors Council (FIC).

The adoption of the Integrated National Energy and Climate Plan (INECP), as she pointed out, is in the final phase and the beginning of the public discussion about the new Energy Development Strategy is expected soon, which is also an opportunity for investors to get involved in the process of preparation of strategic documents.

Djedovic Handanovic said that the first auctions for the market premiums for renewable energy sources had been very successful and that market analyses were being done so as to prepare the second round of auctions, planned for 2024, as well as possible.

At the meeting, it was estimated that a closer cooperation of the state with the corporate sector was needed, especially with export-oriented companies, in the preparation of the introduction of the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM).

The representatives of the FIC praised the cooperation with the ministry in the preparation of the “White Book”, which contains the FIC’s recommendations for removing obstacles to doing business, and emphasized the readiness to actively participate in improving the regulations, the press release says.
