Tender for contractors for construction of new Clinical Center in Kragujevac to be opened – EUR 50 million secured

The project of the new Clinical Center in Kragujevac is finally finished after numerous complications, and the building permit was obtained in March, so the opening of the tender for the contractor, whose validity is limited to 60 to 90 days, is to follow. If there are no complaints and procedural problems, the construction works should start soon. The state has also secured the necessary funds, which are higher than initially planned.

– There have been speculations about a sum of around EUR 42 million, and EUR 50 million has been secured now, and that’s only for the construction works within the first phase of the project, which envisages the construction of a hospital building on nine levels and an aboveground garage with around 300 parking spaces. With the new facility, we will get 395 additional beds, of which 106 are meant for intensive care, and 37 for semi-intensive care – the director of the University Clinical Center of Kragujevac, Slobodan Milisavljevic, says for the Politika daily.

The extensive construction works on the new facility will last two to three years, and expensive medical equipment will have to be purchased afterwards.

– The equipment is extremely expensive, it will cost at least as much as the construction works, so, another EUR 50 million or so – explains director Milisavljevic and adds that the new clinical center building will have a total of 25,000 square meters.

The project of the reconstruction and construction of the University Clinical Center “Kragujevac” also envisages the second phase of the works, which entails the completion of the Technical-Economic Block and the extension of the existing Emergency Center.

– Above the current Emergency Center, a polyclinic with outpatient clinics, with a total area of 2,600 square meters, will be raised. The Technical-Economic Block has 5,600 square meters, and the Center for Oncology will remain on the ground floor of that building, whereas the central pharmacy, the warehouse, the kitchen, the laundromat and the side services will be located on the other levels – says director Milisavljevic.

The Neonatology Center of the Pediatric Clinic, toward which 13 surrounding maternity wards gravitate, will be reconstructed by the end of this year, and what follows is the repair of the roofs above the surgical block, and the Rehabilitation Center is planned to get a new building whose construction could start next year. These works will be financed by the University Clinical Center of Kragujevac from own funds, with the state’s assistance.

– The University Clinical Center Kragujevac is a tertiary health protection institution toward which around two million citizens of central Serbia gravitate. That is why Kragujevac needs a secondary level of health protection too, that is, a general city hospital – says director Milisavljevic.
