Jagodina gets cable car, indoor swimming pool and world's longest water slide in 2012
(Aqua Park in Jagodina)
The tourist offer of Jagodina, which includes Aqua Park, Zoo, Wax Museum, and the Museum of Naive and Marginal Arts and annual attracts between 600 and 700 tourists, will be enriched with an indoor swimming pool and a cable railway to Djurdjevo hill in 2012.
Aqua Park in Jagodina was this summer visited by 200,000 people and about 60,000 students on excursions outside the bathing season, and it is expected to attract another 70,000 visitors by the year's end, Jagodina Mayor Dragan Markovic Palma explained.
Noting that Jagodina "is a tourist city for several years now", Markovic stressed that the construction of a cable railway would commence in October and end until June 1st, 2012.
- A cable car will be big enough for six people and it will carry tourists to the top of Djurdjevo hill, from which they will be able to slide down the world's longest water slide to a swimming pool - Markovic said at the traditional event Days of Open Doors that is always held at the end of the bathing season, which will officially end tomorrow at Jagodina's Aqua Park.
The water slide, down which bathers will slide from Djurdjevo hill to a swimming pool, will be designed to prevent bathers from traveling at much too high speed, Markovic added and pointed out that the cable car would be used for the city sightseeing almost during the whole year, with the top of Djurdjevo hill serving as a vantage point.
Bathing lovers and members of swimming and water polo clubs from Jagodina and surroundings have been patiently waiting for an indoor swimming pool for a long time.
- I can now tell them a good news: the first indoor swimming pool in Jagodina will be opened next year, on November 1st - Markovic announced.
This swimming pool will be used as part of Aqua Park during summer, and it will turn into an indoor pool in winter, Markovic explained and added that the construction of that pool would make it possible for athletes to practice in Jagodina during winter months instead of going to other cities.
