Work on the first unit as part of the restoration and repair of the reversible HPP Bajina Basta have commenced on April 1 and are expected to be completed by the end of this year, whereas the same work on the second unit will be completed in 2025, announced the PE Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS).

The aggregate restoration and adaptation project includes the restoration of mechanical and electrical equipment, the aggregate control system, as well as the excitation and electric braking systems, and the total value of the restoration project is around EUR 35 million.

Dusan Zivkovic, acting General Director of EPS visited the works and stated that the restoration will bring additional security to our power system, greater reliability and extension of the working life of the gold reserve in EPS's system.

- Reversible hydropower plants are at the very top of the priorities when it comes to renewable energy sources, both for production and storage of electricity. The only reversible hydroelectric power plant in the EPS, Bajina Basta is an important reserve in Serbia's power system during periods of increased electricity consumption or during dry periods. In the previous 42 years of operation, RHPP Bajina Basta fully justified of its construction, since with the power reserve deposited in the Zaovine reservoir, it contributed to the steady supply of electricity - stressed Zivkovic.

The restoration was preceded by the necessary security measures, so the aggregate would be in a resting state and in condition for safe operation.

- The 450-ton rotor was removed on April 11, lowered to the assembly area of the machine room of RHPP Bajina Basta, and the dismantling works will be completed in the following days - said Dusan Trisic, director of energy production at the Drina-Lim HPP.
