Kentkart suing City of Belgrade and demanding EUR 17 million in damages

Kentkart, which did the job of charging for tickets in the public transport system for years, has sued the city following the termination of the agreement, demanding EUR 17 million in damages, stated the president of the Temporary Organ of the City of Belgrade, Aleksandar Sapic.

– They controlled a system of EUR 250 million a year. I claim that they can’t get over EUR 1 million, and I believe that it will even be the other way around, because we have proof that they’ve even set back the system – Sapic said for RTS.

According to him, since the termination of that agreement, the ticket prices in the public transport system have reduced, their sale has increased and “a better functioning of public transport than before” has been secured.

Sapic also addressed the works on the construction of the new bus station being late and said that the reason was that the Temporary Organ needed to adopt a temporary budget every three months, due to which many processes which lasted longer than that could not be started.

He estimated that the bus station, had it not been for the Temporary Organ, which had been running the city for the previous six months, since the elections were called for December 17, 2023, would have been completed much earlier.

– It is our fault, not the fault of Beogradska autobuska stanica (BAS), but the fault of the City Building Directorate, that is, the City of Belgrade, that we have not managed to finish that one side traffic route. If we had, the entire bus traffic would have been moved back in January or February – he said.

He said that the works were several months late, but that it was “a big difference compared to five years ago, when nothing was being done,” adding that BAS had carried out all its works in parallel.

– All the procedures have been finished, the contractors have been brought in. They say, a month, a month and a half. In the meantime, we also got money from the government for a side building next to the bus station. It will not affect the opening of the traffic, but it will be part of that complex – said Sapic.
