Begovic estimated that the memorandum was a confirmation of the partnership in the field of biomedicine, biotechnology and science in Serbia and expressed her satisfaction that one of the world’s most important science and technology companies had joined the efforts of Serbia to create a new scientific research center in Europe through the BIO4 campus in Serbia.
– The Government of Serbia and Merck will work together on making Serbia internationally recognized in the field of bioeconomy, so that, through the development of medicine, the citizens would have better diagnostics and access to innovative medical drugs. This company, during its more than 350 years of tradition, has made an enormous contribution to science and innovations – Begovic said and extended her gratitude for the constant implementation of innovations in Serbia and especially for Merck’s having donated close to a million euros for the treatment of oncology diseases in Serbia in the preceding ten years.
Francois Feig pointed out that, together with the Government of Serbia, a foundation was being set on which the future innovations in that part of Europe would be built and expressed that he was satisfied to see Serbia’s accelerated development in biotechnical and biomedical research.
During the signing of this document, the joint projects which would contribute to the improvement of scientific research, the inciting of innovations, investments in scientists and the strengthening of international cooperation were presented as well. Merck will work with the Government of Serbia on bringing its resources closer to scientists in Serbia, so the company’s world-scale projects dedicated to scientific development have become part of the memorandum.
As pointed out, the memorandum will have a positive impact on the positioning of the BIO4 campus, the biggest individual investment in science in Serbia so far, whose construction started in December 2023, and it is expected to be operational as soon as late 2026.
