The Spatial and Urban Planning Agency of Serbia has advertised the public inspection of the Draft Amendments to the Spatial Plan of the Special-Purpose Area of the Infrastructural Corridor of the Belgrade-Nis Railroad. According to the document, the basic concept of the modernization and reconstruction of the Belgrade-Nis railroad is for a modern two-track railroad for mixed (passenger and cargo) transport and a speed up to 200 km/h to be formed on the entire length.

The direct subject of the amendments to the Spatial Plan is the creation of the conditions for the modernization and reconstruction of the existing railroad on three sections with a total length of around 109 km for traffic at speed up to 200 km/h.

These are the sections: Velika Plana-Gilje (around 50 km long), Paracin-Stalac (around 20 km) and Djunis-Trupale (around 38 km long). The sections to which the existing planning documents of spatial and urban planning for the railroad apply are outside the scope of this spatial plan.

– The modernized railroad should provide a high level of security, capacity and comfort in passenger and goods transport, which will considerably contribute to the competitive capability of the railroad compared to other forms of transport, enable a rational redistribution of the traffic and increase the level of environmental protection on the corridor – the document says.
