BIO4 Campus Presented to Representatives of American Investment Companies in New York

The BIO4 Campus, the biggest Serbian science project, worth EUR 450 million, as well as the possibilities of artificial intelligence in Serbia, have been presented to representatives of American companies at the Standing Mission of Serbia at the United Nations in New York, announced the Ministry of Science, Technological Development and Innovations. The project was presented by the minister of science, technological development and innovations of Serbia, Jelena Begovic, together with the director of the Team for IT and Entrepreneurship at the Cabinet of the Prime Minister of Serbia, Ana Brnabic, Nenad Paunovic.

Begovic said that, potential investors, as well as representatives of the diaspora, attended the presentation of the project. They were showed how Serbia saw itself in the future and what the potentials and possibilities were.

– The United States of America (USA) is probably one of the most developed ecosystems when it comes to extraordinary higher education, innovations, technological development and science, and if they hear about the BIO4 Campus in America, they will probably hear about it in a good part of the world as well. That is why it’s important to us to communicate our vision of Serbia in the future, our vision related to biotechnology, artificial intelligence, and to establish, of course, cooperation with the best companies and the best universities in the USA – said the minister.

Paunovic said that the BIO4 Campus was a scientific, but also an economic project and added that the most developed economy in that field was the US one, in the Boston, Cambridge and New York region.

– That’s where the biggest companies are, that’s where the companies with which the BIO4 Campus already has memorandums of understanding are, such as Pfizer or Gingko Bioworks, with which we will have meetings about expanding the cooperation and deepening the relations and working even harder on joint projects with our Serbian science institutes, with our BIO4 campus. There are also new companies, there are the best universities, we want to cooperate with all of them – he said.

Paunovic pointed out the aim was for science to cooperate with science, science with economy, Serbian economy with American economy.

– That is probably the best possible partner in the world, this region, the US east coast, where truly the biggest technological progress is happening and, of course, the biggest and most serious economy is there – Paunovic pointed out.

The adviser at the Cabinet of the Prime Minister of Serbia, Stefan Badza, talked at the gathering about the possibilities of artificial intelligence in Serbia and pointed out that the USA was one of the leaders in artificial intelligence globally and the biggest exporting market for Serbian products in the field of IT. According to him, the intention is to invite as many investors and companies which work in Serbia as possible to expand their teams in the field of AI development.

– It is also important to connect with them, because the most modern products and the latest technologies are developed here, such as ChatGPT, which originally came from the USA. That is why it is important to have very intensive communication with them, so as to have access to all those technologies as soon as possible – he said.

He added that it was also important to connect with people from the Serbian diaspora in the USA who worked in some of the biggest global IT and tech companies and to present to them what was being done in Serbia.

– We hope that some of them will want to return to Serbia to develop their products from Serbia – Badza said.
