The construction of the railroad from Zemun Polje to the future National Stadium, 18 kilometers long, will start this year within the preparations for EXPO 2027, announced the minister of construction, transport and infrastructure of Serbia, Goran Vesic.

As he pointed out, when it comes to EXPO, as far as his ministry is concerned, the construction of that railroad, which will connect Zemun Polje with the future fair complex, the Nikola Tesla Airport and the center of Surcin as well, will begin.

– The speed on that railroad will be 120 kilometers per hour and it will be part of the future Belgrade city rail system. In a few years, this will enable the citizens of Novi Sad to arrive by train to the airport, and when the fast railroad from Belgrade to Nis is finished, on which it will take 100 minutes to travel between the two cities, the Nikola Tesla Airport will also be reachable by rail from Nis – Vesic said on TV Happy.

The draft general regulation plan of the rail systems in Belgrade with elements of a detailed development of the railroad from Zemun Polje to the river Sava-Stage 1, Zemun Polje-National Stadium section, was up for public inspection last autumn.

The border of the GRP of the railroad Zemun Polje-National Stadium encompasses that route of the railroad from Zemun Polje, through the Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport, and further to Surcin-Surcinska Street, that is to the National Stadium and then through the area of the municipality of Surcin toward Obrenovac.

The railroad is planned as a two-track railroad, electrified and equipped with modern SS and TT devices, with terminals for the needs of the passengers: Singidunum stop, Airport stop, Surcin stop and National Stadium rail station. The railroad is planned for passenger traffic.
