India New Potential Market for Serbian Raspberries – Buyers Interested, But Worried About Price

Vivek Nayak arrived to Belgrade for the Agro Belgrade 2024 fair to see for himself what the opportunities are like for starting a new business for his company – importing raspberries to the market of India.

His company Tropicool Foods exports frozen and exotic fruit from India, but Vivek wants to be among the first ones to offer to his fellow citizens more substantial quantities of the fruit they consider exotic, primarily raspberries, blueberries and blackberries.

India is one of the countries which are experiencing the biggest economic growth and development on a global level, and with that comes an increase in the purchasing power of the citizens and the demand for unusual and exotic products from the whole world. Serbian fruit could be among them.

– So far, we have not had berries like raspberry, blackberry, or blueberry in our offer. In our market, this is exotic fruit, like mango or papaya are in the European one, and increasingly, at celebrations or wedding ceremonies in India, in wealthier circles, there are arrangements with “exotic” raspberries for the guests – Vivek Nayak says for Biznis.rs.

He emphasizes that he knows that Serbia is among the biggest producers of raspberries in the world.

– That’s what brought me to Belgrade for the Agro Belgrade 2024 fair – I want to look into which varieties are on offer and what the farming, storage and buyout systems are like – points out this businessman from the Indian state of Karnataka.

He is not, however, fully convinced that the Serbian raspberry is cost-effective enough for his company from the city of Hubli to start a new business adventure.

– I have to admit that I am a bit surprised by the prices – Serbian raspberries are known in the world, but according to the data and the analyses I follow, I can see that Ukrainian and Polish producers can compete with it, especially when it comes to the price. Your raspberries are more expensive, and I’m not sure why – Vivek Nayak is careful.

However, he is convinced that there is considerable potential for the sale of raspberries in the Indian market.

– Our economy is developing, the purchasing power is growing, and the raspberry is considered an exotic fruit that people are ready to buy. That is why I hope that my arrival to Belgrade will pay off and that I will make a calculation where I can include raspberries, and maybe also blueberries and blackberries in the offer of my company for our market – Vivek is optimistic.

Several requirements need to be met for Serbian raspberries to find their way to India.

– I would first have to find a reliable partner in your country, who will cooperate with us in a transparent way, monitor the prices and notify me on a daily basis about the offer and help me be competitive – because I’m not the only one who’s trying to bring Serbian raspberries to the Indian market – concludes Vivek Nayak.
