The president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, stated today that the country had “no problems” with public finances and added that budget revenues were EUR 300 million higher compared to the income planned within the budget revision from September.

In an address to the citizens from the Presidency of Serbia, Vucic said that the deficit rate would be 2.3 to 2.4%, which, according to him, is “drastically below the level projected in the talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).”

– From January 1, salaries in the public sector will be higher by 10%, and we are also increasing the minimum wage, which means that no one can earn less than RSD 47,000 a month, which, compared to the RSD 15,000 from 11 years ago, is truly a considerable step forward, taking into account the inflation as well. A pension increase by 14.8% is to follow too – Vucic said.

He said that the public debt rate would not exceed 52% of the GDP “for one second.”

Vucic announced that “more money than ever before” would be invested in education and healthcare in 2024.

– That’s not just an increase in the income of education workers, we will also work on investing in dual education, which has proven to be a considerable advantage of ours compared to the countries of the region. We will try to bring franchises of the most prestigious foreign universities to Belgrade in the next two years – he said.

The president of Serbia wished a merry Christmas to those who celebrate it according to the Gregorian calendar, wishing them peace, good health and a good year, and announced that he would take journalists’ questions on Orthodox Christmas.
