Underground Garage to Be Built Beneath Park Near Hotel Bristol (PHOTO)

In the underground part of the Saint Nicholas’ Park near Hotel Bristol, the plan is to build a garage on two levels and with nearly 420 parking spaces, which would be managed by the Belgrade PE Parking Servis, as announced by the company Belgrade Waterfront, which, it is added, will also finance this project.

The garage will have two entrances and exits for vehicles and electric car chargers, whereas an underground passage for passengers, with an elevator, will be located in close proximity to the roundabout in the current Belgrade Bus Station (BAS) location.

In the former garden of the famous Serbian endower and benefactor Luka Celovic, which was later turned into the Saint Nicholas’ Park, only 40 to 50 trees remain today, and after the reconstruction, over 200 fully grown trees of indigenous species from our areas, such as the maple, the plane tree, or the oak, will be planted there.

It is added that all the aesthetically representative and fully healthy and preserved trees, mostly plane trees, will be kept in the park, and they will be joined by fully grown ones, up to 15 meters tall, which will fit perfectly into the ambient unit of the park with an exciting history, over a century long.

The “roof” of the garage will feature optimal space for unobstructed growth of the existing and new greenery, whereas a small fountain is also planned in the middle of the greenery.

Monument to Luka Celovic and restoration of “Krst sa Malog pijaca”

In order to pay symbolic tribute to Luka Celovic, the former president of the Belgrade Cooperative, who did so much for his people, in the reconstructed Saint Nicholas’ Park, Belgrade Waterfront will also raise the long-awaited monument to this famous Serb, born in Trebinje.

On the other hand, “Krst sa Malog pijaca” (“The Cross at the Small Green Market”), one of the oldest monuments in Belgrade, which dates back to 1862, will be temporarily moved and restored, and then brought back to its location in the park.

– However, now, next to this symbol of the park, a special access path will be established, the kind of which a monument of such significance deserves – it is said.

Also, within the whole new green oasis, there will be various zones for relaxation, several pedestrian paths and one main, meandering, path, whose “flow” will cause the visitors to slow down and enable them to stay longer in this natural environment.
