Revitalization of Final Generator at HPP Djerdap 1 Finished – Life Cycle Extended by 40 Years

The HPP Djerdap 1 has been the pride of Serbian hydro energy sector for over five decades now, and with the successfully finished revitalization, it will certainly remain so for the next 30 to 40 years as well, stated the minister of mining and energy of Serbia, Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic.

At the marking of the end of the revitalization of the final generator of Serbia’s largest hydro power plant, she pointed out the “the HPP Djerdap 1 is one of the pillars of the electrical energy system, whose revitalization ensures a longer life cycle, as well as an increased production rate and reliability of the operations of this hydro power plant,” as announced on the website of the Government of Serbia.

The minister said that the revitalization had enabled an increased power and capacity, a lower maintenance scope and a multi-decade reliability of the HPP Djerdap 1, as well as the obtaining of a new 100 green megawatts.

She emphasized that the HPP Djerdap 1 gave a big contribution to the stability and security of the system and that its share in the total production of electrical energy in Serbia was 23% at that moment.

According to her, the large hydro power plants on the Danube will continue being one of the pillars of the electrical energy system of Serbia, as well as large and stable producers of green energy.
