– Only a year ago, we began the works and, in 12 months, with dedicated work, 109 kilometers of a new gas pipeline, four metering-regulation stations in Pirot, Dimitrovgrad, Bela Palanka and Nis, as well as a large transceiver station in Trupale, were built. I expect the test operations of the gas pipeline to start by the end of the week – the minister said.
Djedovic Handanovic reminded that the agreement on the interconnection had been signed with Bulgartransgaz and that the commercial agreement on the supply of up to 400 million cubic meters of gas from Azerbaijan by the end of the next year had been signed as well.
The minister pointed out that the Serbia-Bulgaria gas pipeline was also important for supplying the southeast part of Serbia with gas and the green transition process.
This gas pipeline is important for the citizens and the economy in this part of Serbia, especially for connections in Pirot, Dimitrovgrad, Bela Palanka and the development of a secondary gas network in Nis. This infrastructure will enable the connection of companies and a large number of households to the gas network. In the green transition process, it is important to have a secure gas supply, to be able to shift from using coal and mazut to gas, which is a cleaner energy source – said Djedovic Handanovic.
The minister added that the project strengthened Serbia’s position on the gas map of Europe, because the Serbia-Bulgaria gas pipeline with a capacity of 1.8 billion cubic meters also enabled the transit of gas from Azerbaijan and the Caspian Region to the countries of Central Europe.
