Expansion of Port of Sremska Mitrovica Begins – Expropriation to Follow, Plan Includes Connection with Railroad

In the announcement, the ministry says that, acting in line with the Government’s act of September 21, 2021, it has commenced the realization of this project. The port, as said, will be connected to the main railroad of the rail corridor Belgrade-Ruma-Sid-border with Croatia and the state road IB-20 to the highway E70 and farther to E75 and E80.
– This project will facilitate the transport of goods and contribute to regional connecting and economic development – the announcement says.
It is added that the project is supported by the World Bank and that it is carried out within the Program of the Integrated Development of the Corridor of the Rivers Sava and Drina.
The activities are carried out in line with the Decree on Determining the Port Area in Sremska Mitrovica and the adopted Detailed Regulation Plan of a part of the complex RTC Luka Leget with the port area in Sremska Mitrovica which encompasses a part of the coastal area and the water surface area of the left bank of the Sava, downstream from the center of Sremska Mitrovica, in its southeast part.
The ministry says that the procedure of determining the public interest for the expropriation and administrative transfer of the parcels in the cadaster municipality Sremska Mitrovica is in progress.
This September, the immovable property and the owners in the area which is the subject of the expropriation were registered, whereby the activities on the realization of the project officially started.
The ministry also pointed out that the preparation of the binding documents with measures of environmental protection during the works on the expansion of the Port’s capacities was also in progress.
The public presentation is scheduled for November 3 at the premises of the Sava Local Community in Sremska Mitrovica.
According to the preliminary project, the new port complex, following the expansion, will have an area of 14 hectares and a capacity of 1.5 million tons of various cargos in 4 zones, and the construction of an abutment, a wharf and a concrete factory is planned as well.
