In the foreseeable future, the name of the biggest sports and concert hall in the country, the Belgrade Arena (Beogradska arena), will no longer be rebranded, because, as announced by the leaving mayor of Belgrade, Aleksandar Sapic, he will propose a change of the status and the name of this hall. As he added, there are symbols of Belgrade that can’t be sold to anybody.

– There are examples in the neighborhood as well, such as Arena Zagreb, whereas our Belgrade Arena has been called “Kombank” and “Stark”. I have not noticed Arena Zagreb carrying the name of its sponsor, so why would ours be named after anybody? My proposition is for Arena to be transformed from a LLC into a public enterprise of the City of Belgrade and, with all due respect to the companies and their desire to pay to have our Arena named after them, to return and forever allocate the name of Beogradska Arena to the sports facility in New Belgrade, which was its purpose at the moment it was opened. There are things which can’t be put on the market and, no matter how much anybody is willing to pay, they can’t be sold. It is important to take care of our symbols and our history – Sapic pointed out on TV Happy, as reported by Beoinfo.
