Will City Gallery Kosancicev Venac Finally Be Built?

Will City Gallery Kosancicev Venac finally be built? That is the question that has been asked since 2016, when the preliminary design was prepared. A step toward it has been made, because the Government of Serbia has adopted the decision on land expropriation. However, that is the second such decision, as the first one was adopted in October 2018.

Let us remind that 46 works were sent in response to the contest that opened in August 2016 and that the first place was won by the ARCVS team.

– The project provides a display of the dimensions of the facility in the first phase of the realization, but it is necessary to examine the possibility of immediately commencing the further realization based on the proposed solution for the second phase of the facility – the jury’s explanation said.

In 2017, the Secretariat for Culture of the City of Belgrade was the investor in the Urban Project for the construction of this complex, and it also started preparing the contest documentation for the selection of the designer for the construction of the City Gallery facility.

Three years later, the amendments to the Detailed Regulation Plan of the spatial unit Kosancicev Venac were put up for a public inspection.

The future city gallery should be raised in the de-leveled area between Kosancicev Venac Street and Karadjordjeva Street and be connected by an underground passage with Karadjordjeva Street. The plaza in the level of Kosancicev Venac Street would be meant for events, exhibitions and so on.
