The Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure has put up for early public inspection the spatial plan of the special-purpose area with elements of detailed regulation for the main gas pipeline MGP 14 Main Hub Orljane-Leskovac-Vranje-North Macedonian border.

According to the document prepared by the Institute for Architecture and Urban Planning of Serbia, the gas pipeline will be 146 kilometers long.

The main goal of the preparation of the Spatial Plan is the construction of the main gas pipeline for south Serbia, which will secure an interconnection with the gas pipeline system of the Republic of North Macedonia and the pre-conditions for introducing gas supply to the towns and municipalities of the South Morava Valley area.

The gas interconnection with North Macedonia was agreed in 2021.

In April this year, the competent minister announced that Serbia had started preparing spatial and technical documentation for the construction of this gas interconnection.

At the end of May, the Government of Serbia adopted the decision on the preparation of the spatial plan of the special-purpose area with elements of detailed regulation for the main gas pipeline MGP 14 Main Hub Orljane-Leskovac-Vranje-North Macedonian border.

– This way, the possibility of supplying natural gas to the market from other sources of supply would be opened up and the idea of a natural gas market from the Treaty on the Establishment of the Energy Community would be implemented in practice – the decision stated.

Let us remind that the completion of the entire route of the gas pipeline between Serbia and Bulgaria has been announced for October. The total length of the two-way gas pipeline through both states is 170 kilometers and it is designed for a capacity of 1.8 billion cubic meters of gas a year.
