Citizens of Serbia should not worry about their heath and safety when it comes to Block B3 in Kostolac, because that block will be put into operation only after all the strict standards and test procedures are met, Dusan Zivkovic, the acting CEO of Elektroprivreda Srbije, assures, as announced by EPS.

– As the director, but also as an electrical engineer and somebody who has taken part in the commissioning of a large number of blocks and hydro generators after they were revitalized, I can guarantee that Block B3 will be done in line with all the technical norms and standards. The test operations of the systems are done carefully, one by one, which will enable us to put the new block into operation without a problem when the testing is done. The complexity of the testing is reflected in the number of the systems that are located there, from the loading part, the boiler, the turbine, the generator, the transformer, the complex block management system. All the necessary procedures need to be done so that the block would be ready to be connected to the network – Zivkovic said on TV Pink.

He added that the boiler had been started the day before and that this important test had been successful. All the environmental protection measures have been taken and they will be in the function of a facility for the reduction of carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxides and particles. That is a guarantee that the emissions will be in line with the values envisaged by the law.

– The commissioning of individual systems is in progress, and at the end of September or the beginning of October, the block is expected to be connected to the grid for the first time. That doesn’t mean that it will be put into operation, but that the system testing will continue – Zivkovic said.

When it comes to electricity supply for the citizens and the economy during the upcoming winter, Zivkovic said that EPS had done the planned overhauls and that the blocks are being returned to the network. With the current coal capacities of as much as 2.1 million tons of coal and water accumulations whose reserves amount to around 600 GWh, EPS will cover the energy needs of Serbia from its own production and ensure a secure supply.

Zivkovic reminded that the jobs contest for young electrical engineers for the dispatcher position, a very important position for the further development and management of EPS, was in progress.

– The idea was to go a step further and to offer practice at EPS to young engineers, so that they would get used to the conditions and the environment that expect them. I am sure that EPS is a good employer and that it can secure good professional development – Zivkovic said.
