At this moment, the Serbian economy is paying for electrical energy at the level of the economies of the European Union, and the production price of electricity in Serbia is four times lower, as also shown by the considerable increase of the profit of EPS in the first six months of 2023, said the president of the Serbian Business Club “Privrednik”, Zoran Drakulic.

At the traditional reception event organized by the Club, he said that “this time, there will be no talk about macroeconomics, inflation and other topics that concern business people,” and that he would instead mention the three current topics, the Club announced.

– The first is the highlighting of the one-year moratorium which the NBS has created with the banking sector and the conduct of local banks and the increasing of their profit, which doesn’t bypass even the poorest citizens of this country. Since the expiration of the moratorium, some local banks have been charging 39-40% to citizens for current account overdrafts, which is outrageous and a big blow to the budget of the poorest citizens – Drakulic said.

The second topic he talked about was the announcement of the minister of energy of a new electricity price increase.

According to Drakulic, the third, but no less important topic is “corruption in Serbia, which has seeped into all of society and which comprises nearly 5% of the Serbian GDP.”

He pointed out that we would “end this year with an inflation of over 8%, with all the price increases,” and that “Serbia, with its nearly 7 million citizens and the natural resources it has, could be a big leader in the region.”
