In Zemun, on the Danube, an international passenger terminal has opened, which will be able to accommodate river cruise ships. The minister of construction, transport and infrastructure of Serbia, Goran Vesic, said on that occasion that the terminal was one of nine in Serbia and specified that there were two on the Sava and seven on the Danube, the Government of Serbia announced.

The first cruise ship, DCS Amethyst, also docked at the Zemun terminal, with 170 passengers who were given a traditional welcome.

– This is our second terminal in Belgrade, but also the first Belgrade terminal on the Danube, which will enable a greater number of ships to come to Belgrade and our country – the minister pointed out.

He reminded that, not too long before, the terminal in Sremska Mitrovica had been opened and that the terminal in Sabac was being completed and added that the conditions had met for Serbia to have local lines between Sremska Mitrovica, Sabac and Belgrade.

On the Danube, we have terminals in Novi Sad, Zemun, Smederevo, Kostolac, Golubac, Donji Milanovac and Kladovo, and as part of the “Sail Serbia” project, the construction of terminals in Banostor, Sremski Karlovci and Apatin is planned as well, Vesic said.

The minister pointed out that, regarding the number of foreign tourists on rivers, Serbia was right behind Austria and Hungary and specified that there had been 1,419 cruise ships and 135,000 passengers who had visited Serbia the year before.

The director of the Port Governance Agency, Vuk Perovic, pointed out that the entire terminal had been designed and built by local companies.

– From today, we are connecting Zemun with the world and Europe – he emphasized and added that Serbia was moving forward quickly regarding the number of cruise ships visiting the country.

Perovic said that, in 2022, Serbia had surpassed Romania by the number of visits of tourists and that, for that reason, the agency, together with the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure of Serbia, had initiated the “Sail Serbia” project.

The president of the municipality of Zemun, Gavrilo Kovacevic, pointed out that the event was very important, primarily from the aspect of transport.

– Three highways pass through Zemun – the Novi Sad highway, the Zagreb highway and the Milos Veliki highway. On the other hand, a part of the Belgrade-Novi Sad-Budapest railroad passes through Zemun and this is practically the fifth corridor, a waterway, which Zemun now leans on. From the economic-tourism aspect, this is significant for our municipality because all tourists have something to see in Zemun. First of all, the oldest Orthodox church in Belgrade, Nikolajevska, the Millennium Tower or the Gardos Tower, our beautiful Wharf, the Zemun Park, so I invite both business people and tourists to come to Zemun and spend some time here, because Zemun has the soul of an old town. When you come here, you rarely leave – Kovacevic said, as announced by Beoinfo.

The location on which the terminal for international passenger boats of up to 130 meters in length has been built is close to Stara Kapetanija, in the place where there was a boat dock once. It consists of a bridge 54.5 meters long which connects the land and four pontoons with 21 piles.
