Companies to Supervise Construction of New Sava Bridge Selected – Authorities Have “Some Ideas” for the Old One

Following the tendering procedure, the Belgrade Land Development Public Agency has entrusted the services of the FIDIC engineer and the supervision over the construction of the New Sava Bridge to the Belgrade-based companies CPM Consulting and Louis Berger. The value of the agreement is RSD 171 million.

The consortium consisting of the companies Mostprojekt AD Beograd, Preduzece za tehnicka ispitivanja i analize SGS doo Beograd, Privredno drustvo Beoexpert Design doo Beograd and SGS from the Czech Republic also made a bid at the tender, but it was rejected because the amount exceeded the one envisaged for the public procurement.

Let us remind that the public procurement procedure opened in May, and as said at the time in the project task which was part of the tendering documentation, on March 4, 2021, the Ministry of Construction and the Belgrade Land Developed Public Agency signed an agreement with the Chinese company PowerChina, as the contractor, on cooperation regarding the realization and financing of research and planning works.

Among other things, this agreement envisages for the Chinese company, as the contractor, to take on the obligation of pre-financing research and planning works for the purposes of the preparation of the approval planning and the main design for the new bridge, whereas the obligation of the Agency is to secure the FIDIC engineer and supervision over the execution of the works.


The approval planning, in addition to the planning of the new bridge on the Sava, includes the planning of access routes in New Belgrade and Savski Venac, as well as the planning for the demolition of the existing bridge.

The obligations of the FIDIC engineer will encompass thorough project coordination, cost estimate and work quality inspection. Also, the obligation of the future supervisor will be to check and authorize the approval planning, the main design and other projects and studies necessary for the works.

The project says that the statical system of the new bridge will entail a double steel arch and that the steel structure will rest on six reinforced concrete columns, of those, two in the river. The height of the river columns is planned to be 23 m and 15 m.

The traffic profile on the bridge entails two driving lanes of 6.5 m, a tram corridor in the middle, 8 meters wide, and sidewalks of 3.3 m on both sides, including bicycle lanes.

Two passenger lifts are planned as well, and as said, a lift without a motor room has been chosen, with a load bearing capacity of 1,000 kg, that is, 13 people.
