The minister of construction, transport and infrastructure of Serbia, Goran Vesic, has stated that the Republic of Serbia has joined, as an observer, the CARE program (Community Database on Accidents on the Roads in Europe).

– I am very happy that Serbia has joined this program. The decision was made by the EU Group at a high level, and at the request of Serbia – said minister Vesic.

As he clarified, this is the database that processes data on traffic accidents on EU roads, and now in Serbia as well, in line with the criteria defined in the EU.

– Serbia has thereby become the first regional partner in the Western Balkans to whom it was approved to take part in the expert group of the European Union for traffic safety. This success followed after the Serbian Feasibility Study, prepared with the Transport Community with the support of the European Commission. The study has shown that Serbia meets the criteria listed for getting included in this EU program – said Vesic.

He pointed out that the decision to invite Serbia to join the EU program for road safety and to share its data on accidents with European partners, was a testament to the unwavering dedication of the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure to having Serbia become part of various EU programs without waiting for the country to become a full EU member.

Vesic added that Serbia would take part in the meetings of the expert group of the EU, held every year with the aim of bringing together the collective efforts of the EU and its member states to promote road safety, reduce serious injuries and, ultimately, save the lives of the participants in traffic.

– This decision proves the dedication of Serbia to fully complying with the EU legal acquis when it comes to traffic accident statistics. I want to thank the Transport Community and director Matej Zakonjsek for the great help they’ve provided to Serbia in this endeavor – Vesic concluded.
