The minister of mining and energy of Serbia, Dubravka Djedovic, has signed an agreement with the German company Management4health GmbH, which will be the consultant for the implementation of the project of energy repair of the Military-Medical Academy, the Government of Serbia announced.

The total value of the project of the reconstruction of the Military-Medical Academy is EUR 200 million. It is divided into three phases, and the value of the first phase is EUR 55 million. The majority of the funds for the first phase, in the amount of EUR 50 million, has been secured with the support of the German development bank KfW, and EUR 5 million has been secured from the donation of the Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF).

All three phases of the project are planned to be realized in the next six years, and the funds for the next phases will be secured successively, through KfW, with potential participation of EU funds.

After visiting the hospital and signing the agreement, Djedovic said that the Military-Medical Academy was one of the biggest health institutions in Serbia, built over 40 years before, and that the realization of the project would bring not just enormous energy savings and a reduction of the emission of harmful gases, but also an improvement of the quality of services for the patients, over 90% of which were civilians.

– The analyses that have been carried out show that there is considerable room for a more efficient use of energy in public facilities, especially in healthcare – Djedovic pointed out and added that the consumption of electrical energy at the Military Medical Academy was equal to the consumption of a city with 20,000 residents.

It is estimated that the measures that are carried out in the first phase of the rehabilitation will reduce the consumption of natural gas by up to 40% and of electrical energy by 30%, with a reduction of carbon-dioxide emissions by 24,000 tons a year.

– The rehabilitation of the Military-Medical Academy will achieve savings equal to the results of the energy repair of 150 public buildings with an average area of 1,500 m2 – the minister said.
