Momirovic: First Round of Negotiations with China on Free Trade Agreement to Be Completed

The minister of domestic and foreign trade of Serbia, Tomislav Momirovic, announced the completion of the first round of the negotiations about the free trade agreement with China for the next day, which would be another step on the road to further strengthening the Serbian economy and improving the bilateral relations between the two countries, the government announced.

After his address at the plenary session within the first round of the negotiations for the signing of said agreement, Momirovic said that maximum effort was being made for Serbia to get privileged access to the biggest world market for local companies.

He reminded that, in the preceding ten years, China had been the second most important or biggest investor in Serbia and said that Chinese companies had invested EUR 4.2 billion in Serbia’s economy.

– Together, we build highways, we have built the fast railroad to Novi Sad, and we are continuing to build to Subotica, more precisely, connecting Belgrade and Budapest. Chinese companies have invested considerable funds and practically raised our key industrial capacities, such as the Mining-Smelting Basin Bor and the Smederevo Steel Mill – he pointed out.

Momirovic pointed to the fact that the free trade agreement between Serbia and China would enable an even greater number of Chinese investments and an even greater export for Serbian companies to the Chinese market.

– That is why we will do everything in our power to sign this agreement by the end of the year – Momirovic concluded.
