The construction of the second subway line, which passes near the Special Hospital “Sveti Sava”, the Clinical Center of Zemun, the future Gynecology and Obstetrics Clinic (GAK) “Narodni Front” and the Clinical-Hospital Center of Bezanija, was the topic of the meeting of a delegation of the Ministry of Health, led by minister Danica Grujicic, and representatives of the City of Belgrade, city manager Miroslav Cuckovic, head urban planner Marko Stojcic and the director of the PUE Beogradski metro i voz, Andreja Mladenovic, as well as the directors of said health institutions, the Ministry of Health announced.

The attendees were introduced to the technical details and the dynamics of the future construction activities, and they were especially interested in the pedestrian connections between the subway and the Clinical Center of Serbia.

Let us remind that the Clinical Center of Serbia is located on the route of Line 1 of the future Belgrade subway. Instead of a subway station near the Clinical Center of Serbia, the Belgrade authorities earlier announced – an escalator.

The then deputy mayor Goran Vesic announced that the Clinical Center in Belgrade would be connected by an underground passage and an escalator with the future Mostar subway station.

He said that one of the requests was for the subway to pass beneath the Clinical Center, but that “nowhere in the world does the subway pass beneath hospitals.”

– The Mostar subway station is located literally 400 meters from the Clinical Center and the plan is for an underground passage to be made from the Clinical Center’s yard, where an escalator would lead directly to the Mostar station, which is as if there was a subway station – Vesic said in mid-2021 and added that “the management of the Clinical Center has asked for the subway line not to go under it, because it affects the instruments, which are very sensitive.”

However, according to the official plan, the Clinical Center is to be encompassed only by the third subway line.

The “Po meri metro” citizens’ association, which launched an initiative proposing the adoption of Option 1 for the BG Subway, which would cover KCS and the new railway station Prokop, believes that the third line is planned as a correction of the first two.

– As a consequence of the picked routes, it is clear that the third line was planned to correct the shortcomings of the first two. Although the starting and the ending points in New Belgrade and Banjica are indisputable, its route through the central part of the city is “burdened” by the coverage of Clinical Center of Serbia and the new main railway station Prokop. If those two locations were covered by the first line, as we propose, the route of the third line could be designed in a more optimal fashion – members of this association said for eKapija earlier.

According to the General Regulation Plan of the Belgrade Railway Systems, the subway line 2 is planned in the direction: Depot Bezanija-Wholesale Open Market-Zemun Railway Station-Novi Novosadski put Street-Filipa Višnjica Street-Stadium Zemun-Senjski Square-Aleksandra Dubceka Street-Municipality of New Belgrade-Mercator-Arena-Sava centar-Block 18-Savski Square-Manjez-Makenzijeva Street-Juzni Boulevard-Sumatovacka Street-Vojislava Ilica Street-Cvetko’s Open Market-Mite Ruzica Street-Ustanicka Street-Mirijevo.
