BIO4 Campus Attracts Another World Player – Memorandum of Understanding Signed with BGI Group

After the Swiss company Roche and the Japanese Takeda, BIO4 Campus has gotten another global partner. At a meeting between a delegation of the Ministry of Science, Technological Development and Innovations and representatives of the Chinese BGI Group, the Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the two sides.

The memorandum envisages continued cooperation in the fields of artificial intelligence, biotechnology, new technologies such as synthetic biology and other advanced technologies in the field of diagnostics in medicine.

This is a continuation of the cooperation commenced with this company which was agreed in November last year at a meeting between the head of BGI Group, Wang Jian, and the prime minister of Serbia, Ana Brnabic, according to the website of the ministry.

BGI Group has already opened a development center in Belgrade, where over 15 experts from Serbia are employed in the field of artificial intelligence. Cooperation with the Institute for Artificial Intelligence and universities in Serbia in the field of education in new sciences such as bioinformatics has been initiated.

Minister Begovic thanked the partners from China and underlined the good experience of cooperation of Serbia with the company BGI Group, which had donated two “Fire Eye” laboratories during the COVID-19 pandemic, and said that the aid had meant a lot to all citizens of Serbia.

Begovic added that the ministry is ready to move forward with the development of new projects in cooperation with this company.
