Djedovic pointed out that Serbia was one of the founders of IRENA and that, in addition to active participation in the assemblies of the organization, it was also interested in expanding the cooperation to the end of transferring knowledge, experiences and new technologies in the field of RES.
– The adoption of strategic documents in which RES have an important place in securing a greater energy security for Serbia, but also in our efforts to achieve carbon neutrality, following the goals set by the EU, is in progress. We are especially interested in professional cooperation in RES, where the information that IRENA provides about the capacities and investment costs, the experiences of various countries and regions, is extremely important for us. Energy transition is our reality and, in the years ahead, we will have an increasing share of RES in the production of energy, but we have to take care of the stability of the system and the financial and social sustainability of the energy transition – said Djedovic, as announced on the website of the ministry.
At the meeting, it was said that the region of Southeast Europe was characterized by a remarkable potential for the production of electrical energy from RES at competitive prices, but that despite the considerable realized investments, it was still not enough for a successful green transition.
La Camera offered expert and technological support to Serbia in defining the instruments for detecting and mapping RES potentials, in which IRENA has already taken part in several countries of the region. La Camera pointed out that, in addition to supporting the mapping of RES potentials, IRENA was also interested in providing support in defining the concrete steps for the implementation of short-, medium- and long-term plans.
The International Renewable Energy Agency is the first international organization specialized for renewable energy sources. It was founded in Bonn in 2009 and today has 167 member states, with the EU as the 168th member.
