The Regional Agency for Development of Eastern Serbia (RARIS) announced yesterday that 70 locations had been identified in the Timok borderland for construction of mini hydroelectric power plants and invited investors to start investing in that field.

At the presentation of investment opportunities in the Timok borderland in Belgrade, representatives of RARIS stated that six preliminary researches related to construction of wind farms were underway in that part of eastern Serbia.

In addition to opportunities for investing in renewable energy sources, the Timok borderland also offers good terms for investing in mining, textile industry, agriculture, tourism, gas supply network, said the representatives of RARIS.

Dragijana Radonjic-Petrovic, the State Secretary for Regional Development and Promotion of Entrepreneurship in the Ministry of Economy of Serbia, said that the initiative for development of eastern Serbia was useful for overall coordination of the policy of regional development in eastern Serbia.

Assistant Director of the Investment and Export Promotion Agency (SIEPA) Vladimir Tomic said that the investment agreement with Slovenia's Gorenje, which should enable employment of 300 people in Zajecar, was a success, but that the Timok borderland needed much more foreign investments.
