The minister of mining and energy of Serbia, Dubravka Djedovic, said today that the delay of the beginning of the heating season had led to saving more than EUR 50 million.

She told TV Pink that “it’s a huge sum of money, and the former German chancellor told the citizens that they would have to wear sweaters in their apartments”.

– Serbia is ready for the winter. The heating season has started successfully. Concluding with October 10, all the preparations were made. An adaptation period is required, some routine malfunctions have been noticed, but nothing that hasn’t been present before – Djedovic said.

She added that “if there are no unforeseen situations, there is enough energy”.

She said that the global situation was uncertain and that it didn’t depend on Serbia alone.

– In Hungary, we have around 380 million cubic meters of gas and that is something that the technical government worked hard to achieve, we have around 280 million cubic meters of gas in Banatski Dvor. If there are no unforeseen situations, there is enough energy to pull through – Djedovic said.

She pointed out that, regarding the savings, “we need to gradually realize that responsibility starts with the individual”. According to her, the temperature in apartments will be 20 degrees and that is the decision for the time being.

– If the external temperatures don’t drop below 16 degrees, the system levels itself and heats less – Djedovic said and added that there were reserves of around 35,000 tons of mazut and that it was “enough for now”.

When it comes to coal, Djedovic said that the reserves amounted to 1.2 million tons and that there were efforts to import that energy source.
