A new setting of fuel prices is scheduled for today and it is not yet known whether the government will extend the decision in November as well. The secretary general of the Association of Oil Companies of Serbia, Tomislav Micovic, said for RTS that the Association of Oil Companies of Serbia had been advocating for a long time for the decision to be removed, not so that they could raise the prices to an enormous extent and earn that way, but because it was very difficult for them to manage their business operations under such conditions.

Tomislav Micovic said that, for several weeks back, the changes in the price of fuel had not been big and that they, according to the estimate of the ministry and the Rulebook on Setting Wholesale Prices, reflected the change of prices in the market.

– For a long time now, the Association of Oil Companies of Serbia has been advocating the removal of this decision, and consumers should know this, not so that we could raise the prices to an enormous extent and earn that way, but because, simply, it is very difficult to manage the business operations under such conditions, and it is also very difficult to secure sufficient quantities. The removal of the decision would also increase the stability of the supply, because companies could more easily manage their operations, supplies, purchase, sale – said Micovic.

He added that the market was quite upset and disturbed and that the decision, in addition to the limit of the prices of oil products, also featured the obligation of NIS to sell diesel fuel to agricultural properties at a price of RSD 170, which, as he said, is RSD 40 less than the market price that the state has set.

Micovic said that the prices would not be going wild if the state had not intervened, since the prices, as he said, are always formed based on the costs of the oil companies and the market competition. He added that the limit on the price of fuel, as a temporary measures, lasted for a very long time and that the states in the surroundings were slowly abandoning it.
