Free Outdoor Opera Spectacle – “Rigoletto” on September 10 in Belgrade

After performing the title role in Giuseppe Verdi’s opera “Rigoletto” in Novi Sad on September 7, the famous operate baritone Zeljko Lucic will also perform in front of the Belgrade audience within the fourth edition of the “Waterfront Opera” on Saturday, September 10, at 8 PM, on the plaza behind the Geozavod building within the Belgrade Waterfront.

– This opera is, in a way, my return to the local scene when it comes to performances of this kind, in the open. As soon as tomorrow, I will negotiate with the manager of the Serbian National Theater to organize the performances of several more operas, and we also need to agree about the locations. At opera halls, the consequences of the pandemic are still felt, there’s less and less audience. On September 10, I will sing directly into a microphone, and I will act “from myself”, so that I would act as Zeljko Lucic in those scenes. It is a complex role, with elements of comedy and tragedy, as all Verdi’s operas are, with a tragic end. It is a story which can be placed in any era, the present, the past, it is universal – Lucic said at a press conference.

Zeljko Lucic, one of the most respected Serbian baritones, often called “Verdian”, because it is his roles in Verdi’s operas that have brought him fame, has performed on many stages in the world, the most important of which are the four most prestigious opera houses – the Metropolitan Opera in New York, La Scala in Milan, the Vienna State Opera and the Royal Opera House in London. He is now arriving to Belgrade, ready to delight the audience with his voice. Entrance is free, as in the past years.
