No crisis for developers - Which professions are the most sought-after in the IT market?

Information technology market in Serbia has faced a major challenge after the Russia-Ukraine conflict. A large number of IT experts from the two countries arrived in Serbia and continued their economic activity here. The assumption was that the crisis would significantly slowly down the employment, however, according to the employment website Helloworld.rs, the number of job ads in the IT industry has increased by 26% in the first six months of 2022, compared to the first half of 2021.

Employers are increasingly deciding to work from home and employ seniors

In most advertisements, companies looked for a medior experts (in as many as 60% of ads), and on the other hand, 30% of advertisements were announced for those most experienced. What needs to be mentioned is that employers are hiring less and less beginners, i.e. experts with the least relevant experience in the IT sector. The number of Junior ads is currently only 10%.

One of the few occupations almost completely immune to the crisis is software developer, which was the most sought-after position in the IT labor market in the first six months. This report specifically points out that applicants can earn by up to EUR 8,500 for this position.


In addition to this position, Frontend Developer, IT Help Desk, JavaScript engineers and system administrators have also found themselves on the list of most wanted jobs. An increase in the number of ads for the positions such as IT managers, Project managers and Products managers is also noticeable.

The programming languages ​​that are most sought-after among employers are JavaScript, Java, Python and SQL, whereas knowledge of GIT, Linux, Rest, as well as knowledge of agile methodologies come close second.
