How Architects See Vacation Houses on Fruska Gora – Slanted Roofs, Open Balconies, Wooden Structures, Pools… (PHOTO)

Vacation house types on Fruska Gora were the topic of last year’s architectural contest organized by the Municipality of Irig in cooperation with the Association of Architects of Novi Sad (DaNS).

The aim is to find the best solution through the valorization of several submitted ones.

Depending on the size and the floor area, the facilities are distributed across three various categories: For type 1 house (facility up to 100 m2), a total of 18 designs were sent, for type 2 (facility up to 150 m2), 17 were sent, and for type 3 house (facility up to 300 m2), 13 works were sent.

Type 1 – vacation house for one owner (family, individual)

The main characteristic of the awarded design by the architect Stefan Radosevic, according to the jury, is a modern interpretation of an idea taken from the traditional construction practice in the form of shaping the facility around a centrally positioned hearth.

An additional value of this spatial, functional and symbolic core of the facility is that this space is simultaneously interior and exterior, indoor and outdoor and that, depending on the user’s preference, it can be fully private or become a place of meetings and contacts.

The design of the Unknown Studio team from Belgrade has been bought out. As clarified, a simple volumetry of the separated spatial units and their mutual relation, depending on the terrain and the orientation, offer a large number of spatial variations and the possibility of implementation in various situations.



Type 2 – residential villa

A design by Mirko Pavlovic, BSc in architecture, was awarded. In this project, the motif of a slanted roof of a mountain house was used in an original way. The interplay and the combination of the two volumes of slanted planes create a kind of a membrane within which is a quite rationally utilized space for the accommodation of all the necessary features that a vacation house or a house for rent should have. One of the biggest qualities of this design is the highlighting and the placing of the focus on the use of the balcony space and the opening toward the nature, it is clarified.



Type 3 residential villa

Enterijer Jankovic won the award. The design is characterized by two-way roofs which descend to the ground, forming interesting interzones and connections between the interior and the exterior. The interaction between the interior and the exterior is intensified through the use of large glass surfaces, canopied and open balconies. The use of a wooden structure is characteristic of this facility, which is praiseworthy when it comes to its implementation in facilities with larger floor areas, the jury says. The foundation is functional and well designed programmatically so that it enables various use regimes to users.



A design by Mirko Pavlovic was bought out, and, according to the jury, the decision was to this way award the project which tries to provide a solution for a facility with a high degree of comfort, especially considering the fact that the zone of the new Vrdnik Spa is a location where facilities of this type are expected to be needed. The proposed design is characterized by a well-thought-out functionality and flexibility in the use of facilities for residential or tourist purpose.
